Overview

Towerkeld was founded durring the late 13th century in spring of the year 1159, by Galben Stringer. The establishment of the new community went well, with no major obsticles durring construction.

Towerkeld was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 13th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Towerkeld is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Towerkeld is buildings are grouped arround an odd layout of broad baked earthen streets, which seems to be based on an overlapping squair patern such that there are small squares at the cornor of every bigger square. Sometimes buildings exist in the smaller squaires, other times they are open spaces, or occupied by temporary structures. The town emploies a series of defencive earthworks, spikes, and fences to provide some protection against wild beasts and smaller groups of intelegent foes. Towerkeld's minimaly adiquite are in an unremarkable state. To some, this is the ideal sate for defences to be in. In need of absoutly nothing, and ready to serve the town as needed.

Towerkeld has the unmistakable air of a town on its last legs. Everything is a bit slipshod and ramshackle. Everyone is at work, or drinking. No one has anything in their eyes other than fear and despair. Whatever industry once fueled Towerkeld ’s existence has dried up and the town is drifting down the stream of history as it dries up. The people are clearly worried about something, and everyone is either wearing a weapon or has one close at hand. Your gut tells you it’s not mere fate which has caused this town to begin failing...

Cultural Notes

Towerkeld's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by dynamic designs and complex architectural plan forms; intended to heighten feelings of motion and sensuality, and frequently based on the oval. It made extensive and extreme use of: Grandeur, Contrast, Curves and twists, Rich surface treatments, Gilded statuary, Bright colors, Vividly painted ceilings, Fragmented or deliberately incomplete elements, Large-scale frescoes, Dramatic central projections on an external facade, the use of plaster, stucco, or marble finishing, Illusory effects such as trompe l’oeil, and pear-shaped domes. While beloved by the nobility, the common folk tended to despise the style due to the massive consumption of resources required for even a small building constructed in this style.

In Towerkeld hail is always enormous, yet harmlessly plinks off people, creatures, and structures.

The Caypup near Towerkeld are known to be a mutant strain of the creature.

Towerkeld's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in winter and involves destroying a prepared ritual vessel to channel Mysticism energies of tier 2 via oath swearing.

Points of Interest

Towerkeld is uncommonly rich, not only for the gentry but for the common citizens as well. They may produce a valuable good, oversee precious resource extraction, have special economic favors from the ruler, or simply have inherited a vast body of infrastructure. Their neighbors likely view them with envy, and outside raiders and exploiters find them an ideal target.

POI

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century, Towerkeld was attacked by soldiers from another nation, with orders to raid Towerkeld. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Towerkeld lost 258 people, 168 livestock, and 89 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 99, when members of Towerkeld's militia enacted an operation to escort a particular research site to a safe location. The operation was complicated by the army's activities draw the wrath of formerly neutral parties. The conflict ended with pitched battle between both forces, which ended in a crushing defeat for Towerkeld's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Towerkeld's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
